During an unannounced visit in October, the programme quality team found that a Mieru screening partner in one district had reported screening in schools that its staff had not visited. A review of the partner’s returns found false reports for 57 schools over eighteen months.
We ended the grant on 28 November and have reported the matter to the police. Of the ¥31 million paid under the grant, ¥9.8 million has so far been recovered. Children in the schools concerned will be screened by another partner before the end of the school year.
This is the eleventh grant we have ended early in ten years. Our grant conditions explain when we do so, and our fraud warning explains how to recognise people who pretend to be us.
