Safeguarding
Much of our work is with children, with older people and with people who cannot see. All of them are entitled to be safe from harm by anyone connected with us.
Our commitment
Everyone who works for the Foundation, and every partner we fund, must act to protect children and adults at risk from abuse, exploitation and neglect. We do not tolerate harm by our staff or partners, and we act on every concern.
What we expect of partners
- A written safeguarding policy suited to the people they work with, a named person responsible for it, and checks on staff and volunteers appropriate to local law.
- In school screening, that no adult is alone with a child where they cannot be seen, and that no images of children are taken or recorded, by any device, during screening.
- That any concern connected with a Foundation grant is reported to us within 48 hours.
Devices
Staff and screeners who wear optical implants must switch off recording, and any function that identifies people, while working with children or in clinics, as KF-OS 2 requires of conforming devices. Screeners whose devices cannot do this may not take part in screening.
Reporting a concern
If you are worried that someone connected with the Foundation or a programme we fund has harmed or may harm a child or adult at risk, tell us at safeguarding@kiroshi.org. If someone is in immediate danger, contact the police or emergency services first. You can report anonymously through our speak up service.
What we report
We publish the number of safeguarding concerns reported each year, and what happened, without identifying anyone. In FY2025 we received 19 concerns, of which 7 were upheld; two led to partners’ staff being dismissed, and one to the end of a grant.
