The job

The team

The Register has 22 staff in Chiba, including six clinical reviewers who between them read every report within two working days. It reports to the board’s Audit and Risk Committee, not to the Executive Director, so that nobody with a connection to an implant maker stands between its findings and the board.

What you will do

  • Read and triage reports from wearers, clinicians and makers, in English or Japanese, and follow up with reporters where details are missing.
  • Present possible patterns to the clinical panel, with the evidence for and against.
  • Draft signals: the notices published to the public, regulators and makers when the Register finds a likely fault.
  • Take part in a weekend rota for urgent reports, one weekend in six, with time off in lieu.

What we are looking for

  • A clinical qualification (ophthalmology, optometry, nursing or a related field) and at least five years of clinical practice.
  • Professional working English and Japanese. We will consider strong candidates with one language and support them to learn the other.
  • The ability to write plainly about uncertain evidence for people who are not clinicians.
  • No employment by, or shares in, any maker of optical implants. We will ask you to declare this every year.

How to apply

Send a CV and a letter of no more than two pages, saying why you want the job and what you would bring to it, to careers@kiroshi.org with the job title in the subject line. We reply to every application. If you need the details in another format or any adjustment to the process, write to the same address.
